A series of events

Mommy Durian's birthday was in Oct 2nd.
And throughout her celebration, Liewlian slept through no matter how they tried to wake him up.

On Oct 7, its the Small Auntie Durian birthday chalet and Mommy Durian thought it was funny to "decorate" liewlian as well.

And liewlian gladly pose for the picture.

Some random photos to share - when Liewlian was still in ICU...


Conditional Learning - Liewlian is learning how to suck from a bottle... He was supposed to learn while in mommy durian's tummy...


That device on the nose is a breathing apparatus supplying oxygen to help Liewlian breathe better.




Premature babies like Liewlian tend to get apnea attacks - forgetting how to breathe.
Thus must monitor closely and make sure he remembers to breathe...


Liewlian gets better and better as each day goes by.
His breathing improve by leaps and bounds and soon there is no need to use the breathing apparatus anymore.
The tube in his mouth is a feeding tube.

Liewlian has got another minor problem - hernia.
There is a hole near the stomach i think that cause leakages. It needs a day operation to solve the problem but at that point of time, operation is not considered as Liewlian's breathing is rather unstable.
Thus he cannot over strain and had to reduce the amount of feeding intake - feed lesser but at increased intervals.


Liewlian had a new look! A red headband!
The breathing apparatus is back on - cos he suffer from another apnea attack :(
Its quite frightening actually...



Doc thinks Liewlian is better and off goes the breathing device again.
And another new headband for Liewlian...

The 1st time

Liewlian was born at around 800 grams and was really a tiny baby.
My mom (aka Liewlian's grandma) saw the birth (cos she just went to the labor ward without anyone knowing) and saw Liewlian wheeled towards ICU.
She described his eyes as really huge and emotional and was fixated on her while being wheeled away.
The 1st few weeks was a turmoil with emotions riding on a rollercoaster.
However, it seems that Liewlian is doing well except for the breathing part.
He was expected to stay in the ICU for 5 months or must weigh at least 2kg to be out of ICU..


In this pic, Liewlian should be around 2 or 3 months old (corrected age 8 or 9 months)


For the 1st time, my sis aka Mommy Durian finally get to carry her darling - MUST take picture
Look at how Liewlian was peering intently at her.


My brother-in-law aka Daddy Durian carrying his darling as well.
But Liewlian was not looking at him lei. Must have fell asleep cos Daddy Durian must have been a gigantic pillow for him...


My auntie who was really concerned went to see Liewlian each chance she got.
And of cos must carry him too.



I think Mummy Durian should contribute to this blog ya....

Why the name liew lian?

My sister told me that while she is pregnant, she had very sudden cravings for durians - something that she would rather not eat normally.

And while she was deciding on names for her unborn boy, we were telling her what about "liu lian" since his surname is Liu.

It was a funny episode, so we are stuck to calling her baby Liu Lian aka liewlian.... whatever.
He is Miracle Durian because it is so seldom that premmies survived so well despite the circumstances he was faced with.

My poor nephew, he is gonna have durian cakes for his every birthday.

He had Stage I or II brain bleeding, had a hole at the heart valve, had some eye problems, but all these issues were resolved promptly naturally. This boy sure have superb will power to live.

At that moment, no one is allowed to carry him yet as he is still very tiny and vulnerable..
